Sony Confirms PlayStation 6 Development

Sony's CEO Hideaki Nishino has confirmed that the PlayStation 6 is already top of mind for the company. The next-gen console is anticipated for release in 2028, eight years after the PS5 launch.

Nishino emphasized the importance of local gaming experiences over cloud options despite growing popularity. Most players prefer local gameplay due to network stability and cost considerations.

The PS6 is expected to feature enhanced hardware for ray-tracing and machine learning capabilities. This ensures it remains competitive with advancing PC technology and gaming standards.

Backward compatibility is likely to include PS4 and PS5 games at minimum. There is ongoing interest in potentially enabling PS3 emulation for classic game access.

Sony is adopting a multi-generational strategy supporting both PS5 and PS6 ecosystems simultaneously. This approach allows for integrated experiences across console generations.
