Calculate your Body Mass Index
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple calculation using your height and weight to determine if you're at a healthy weight for your height. It's a widely used screening tool to identify possible weight problems in adults.
Metric Formula: BMI = weight(kg) / height(m)²
Imperial Formula: BMI = 703 × weight(lbs) / height(inches)²
The formula divides your weight by your height squared to give a numerical value that falls into one of several categories.
BMI is a useful screening tool but has limitations. It doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or fat distribution. Athletes may have higher BMIs due to muscle weight.
A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered healthy for most adults. However, ideal weight varies based on age, gender, and body composition.
Check your BMI monthly if you're working toward weight goals, or quarterly for general health monitoring.
